The classes take place every Monday afternoon from 3 to 4 p.m. The children are loving the experience of learning a new instrument and all the children were given their own instrument for the year . WHAT IS MUSIC GENERATION?Music Generation is Ireland’s National Music Education Programme that transforms the lives of children and young people through access to high quality performance music education. HOW IS IT FUNDED?Initiated by Music Network, Music Generation is co-funded by U2, The Ireland Funds, The Department of Education and Skills and Local Music Education Partnerships. |
Background: In 2009 U2 and The Ireland Funds gifted a €7m philanthropic donation to music education in Ireland with a very clear intention:
“What we want to do is really simple. We just want to make sure that everyone, whatever their background, gets access to music tuition. That’s the idea.” Bono “We had been looking for some time for a way to get involved in an initiative in music education in Ireland. After talking to various people in Ireland about what to do, we came to the conclusion that the Music Network scheme is really well thought out and that we, in partnership with the Ireland Funds, should just get behind it.” The Edge |
